Darn it!

An Emotional Music Speaker Designed For Furious Behaviors

PROJECT TYPE Undergraduate Project
DELIVERABLES Look-like Prototypes, Technical Prototypes
DURATION June 2014
MY ROLE Product Lead

Overview

Darn it is an interaction speaker based on Arduino and sensors. The user could control the on/off, volume, and songs list of the speaker by hitting, rotating, and beating behaviors.

Ideation

Prompt and Define

My team was assigned for the angry emotion speaker. We interpreted and brainstormed angry facial expression and actions.

After a brainstorm practice, we made a library of angry actions and chose to develop three of them, beating, wringing, and hiting.

Ideat

Sketchings

The form design idea derives from angry behaviors and the tumbler appearance which could induce hitting.

Reflections and Future

This project was done in a very short time with two other team members. I was the team leader and took responsibility for the 3D model. I reserved enough space for all the sensors and trimmed the 3D print model by hand. An appropriate configuration design is very crucial for the tangible interaction design.

The interaction with the user could be more plentiful, such as various color lights and transformation, to express the angry emotion and bring feedback to the user.
